Due to construction on the Current River Bridge, multi-use trails at Centennial Park will be closed to the public in the area of Highway 11/17 beginning on June 17.
Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation will be conducting rehabilitation on the Current River Bridge over the summer. During construction, Highway 11/17 traffic on the eastbound bridge will be reduced to one lane with a maximum speed of 70 km/h.
To accommodate this work, the City will close the sections of trail at Centennial Park that run below the highway on both sides of the river. This will close trail access between Centennial Park and Trowbridge Falls Park/Trowbridge Forest trails.
During the closure, users can access trails on the north side of Highway 11/17 from the Balsam Street and Trowbridge Falls trailheads, while trails on the south side of the highway can be accessed from the Bluffs and Centennial Park trailheads.
The trail closures are expected to be in place until August 21, and limited closures may be required in September. The trail will be open for the Xterra triathlon and Canadian XCM mountain bike championships.
The work includes improvements to the trail surface, drainage, fencing, and erosion protection in the area of the bridge.
