JULY 15, 2021
WHEREAS, on July 15, 2021, Chippewa Park will officially be 100 years old; and
WHEREAS, prior to the official opening, the park was named “Chippewa” to acknowledge the original inhabitants of the land; and
WHEREAS, on July 15, 1921, the Mayor of Fort William, Albert Huge “A.H.” Dennis, presided over the official opening of the park; and
WHEREAS, for the last 100 years the Park has become the go-to place for residents and tourists alike, and as its features and services evolved over time, including the Chippewa Park Carousel which has been included in the City of Thunder Bay Heritage Register, the Park remains one of the most popular parks in Thunder Bay.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Bill Mauro, on behalf of Thunder Bay City Council, do hereby proclaim July 15, 2021, as “Chippewa Park Day” in the City of Thunder Bay, and invite all citizens to visit the park and enjoy its trails, beaches, amenities and picnic areas.
