The City of Thunder Bay’s Licensing & Enforcement Division will resume some services to better assist domestic animals, their owners, and the general public.
The changes include responding to complaints involving dogs and cats running at large in a more timely manner, and accepting animals at the Municipal Kennel who are found at-large. Lost pets taken into care will also be posted on the City’s website to alert their owners they have been found.
Some of these services were halted by Municipal Enforcement Services during the pandemic, with the public requesting these services be reinstated.
“We have heard what the community wants when it comes to working with domestic animals,” said Kristyn Lovato-Day, Policy and Research Analyst – Corporate Services.
“This is the first step to providing better service, particularly for animals found running at-large.”
Municipal Enforcement Services will also create a task force with members of the pet community. The goal of the task force is to hear from animal and pet stakeholders, to make sure the City’s services align with the needs of the community.
Additional changes include enhancements to the Municipal Enforcement Services website, providing more information with what to do when animals are lost or found, and how to deal with wildlife in Thunder Bay.
