April 3, 2017 - The City of Thunder Bay's Anti-Racism & Respect Advisory Committee hosted its first Roundtable Against Racism today at Ka-Na-Chi-Hih.
The Roundtable Against Racism brought together about 40 community-based organizations that are united in action against racism and work to promote equity, diversity, and respect in the community.
The purpose of the Roundtable is to share information, research and best practices on related work, and to provide a forum for stakeholder engagement.
"Racism is present in our community whether we choose to acknowledge it or not," said Amina Abu-Bakare, Anti-Racism & Respect Advisory Committee Chair. "This Roundtable is a step toward change. It's important to gather with groups and organizations from across the city to share views, knowledge, and experiences to help create solutions specific to our community."
The City's Anti-Racism & Respect Advisory Committee develops and recommends a four-year Action Plan to challenge individual and systemic acts of racial discrimination and foster respect. Learn more about the committee at: thunderbay.ca/antiracism
