May 20, 2015 - Compost will be available to all residents at no charge while quantities last, weather permitting, beginning on Monday, May 25.

The pick-up area is located just east of the old landfill entrance on John Street Road. Hours of operation at the compost pick-up area are Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm.

"We're happy to again offer free compost to residents," said Jason Sherband, Coordinator - Solid Waste Diversion and Recycling. "This compost is the result of the leaf and yard waste picked up during our curbside collection programs, which is blended with organic waste dropped off at the landfill site year-round."

The compost is ideal for use in landscaping, flower beds and lawns, but is not suitable for vegetable gardens.

Residents bringing garbage, recycling and/or hazardous household waste must dispose of these items at the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility on Mapleward Road before visiting the special compost pick-up area. Remember to sort and secure your load and always use the appropriate laydown areas. The compost pick-up area is accessible from John Street Road only.

Residents are advised to bring a shovel and some bags or containers to carry their compost home. Quantities limited to a maximum of one half ton load per resident.
