The City is pleased to begin reopening park playgrounds to residents starting today and over the coming week. City Council meetings will continue to remain virtual at this time with options available for virtual deputations.
Gradual Playground Reopening Begin Today
The City’s Parks and Open Spaces Section has received and finalized reopening requirements for playgrounds. The City is working towards reopening five sites on the city’s south side and five sites on the city’s north side today. This will be followed by further reopenings next week. Playground sites reopening today include: Franklin, Vickers Park, West Thunder, Tarbutt, Green Acres, North End, County Park, Hillcrest, Boulevard, and the Marina.
Signage will be posted at sites as they reopen listing user requirements due to COVID-19. Users must sanitize or wash their hands before entering the playground area, maintain physical distancing of at least two metres from other playground users who are not from the same household, and if the resident has experienced any COVID-19 symptoms, they are instructed not to use the playground.
Announcements of further playground reopenings will be made in the coming week and residents are encouraged to look for posted signage at each site stating it has reopened. Swings at playgrounds will be set-up over the next two weeks.
City Council Meetings Remain Virtual
As the city moves to Stage 3 reopening, City Council will continue to maintain virtual meetings. Meetings are aired on Shaw Cable, Tbaytel and through the City’s website for public information. Those seeking to make deputations can provide written deputations or attend the meeting virtually by phone or videoconference. Members of the public are not able to attend meetings in person in Council Chambers at this time as occupancy limits are currently in place as per public health guidelines.
