Free compost is now available at the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility, for all residents - while quantities last, weather permitting.

“With the mild weather this spring, residents have been awaiting the opening of our compost pick-up,” said Jason Sherband, Manager – Solid Waste & Recycling Services. “The leaf and yard waste that comes in from our curbside collection programs is blended with organic waste, and then composted to create a sustainable alternative to chemical fertilizers for use in landscaping, flower beds and lawns.”

Access to the compost pick-up area is located east of the old landfill entrance on John Street Road. Hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 8:30 am - 5 pm, and Saturday from 8:30 am - 4 pm.

Residents bringing garbage, recycling and/or hazardous household waste should dispose of these items at the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility on Mapleward Road first, before visiting the special compost pick-up area.

Make sure to bring a shovel and some bags or containers to carry compost home. Quantities are limited to a maximum of one half-ton load per resident.
