March 31, 2017 -Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, Tbaytel and the Lakehead University Thunderwolves Hockey Team have again joined forces to promote fire safety with the creation of fire safety hockey cards featuring this year's Thunderwolves team. Today at McKellar Park School members of the Thunderwolves Hockey Team joined Thunder Bay Fire Rescue in educating students on home fire safety.

"Lakehead Thunderwolves Hockey loves the opportunity to get out into our local schools and promote the important message of fire prevention," said Lakehead Thunderwolves' Varsity Hockey Executive Director Jason Mallon. "To be able to promote fire prevention with hockey cards is a great fit for our team. This program would not have been possible without the help of our partners Tbaytel and Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and we hope to continue this program for years to come."

The focus of the presentation was on the importance of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and home fire escape planning. Each student attending the presentation received fire safety hockey cards and a special take-home assignment to work on with their families.

"Our partnership with Lakehead Thunderwolves Hockey and Thunder Bay Fire Rescue for this initiative allows us to help promote the very important message of fire prevention, which is very meaningful to Tbaytel," said Tbaytel president and CEO Dan Topatigh. "Health and safety is a priority throughout every level of our organization and fire prevention is something that everyone should learn about, regardless of age. Tbaytel is once again thrilled to be a part of an outreach activity that educates the community in such an interesting and engaging way."

This year marks the fourth year of the partnership between Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, Tbaytel and the Lakehead University Thunderwolves Hockey Team. Over 400 students in 16 classes have taken part in fire safety presentations with Thunderwolves players and Thunder Bay Fire Rescue this year.
