February 21, 2017 - Following an extensive search and hiring process, City Manager Norm Gale is pleased to announce Kelly Robertson as the new General Manager of the City's Community Services Department.

Ms. Robertson is from the City of Ottawa and has 29 years of municipal leadership experience. She was the Branch Manager of city-wide recreation programs.  Before that, she was Ottawa's Branch Manager for community programs, and Branch Manager for sports and recreational venues, parks & programs.  She held other leadership positions in community recreation and sport, athletics, family health, museums, municipal child-care and senior's programs. 

Ms. Robertson holds a Master's degree in public administration and a Bachelor's degree in law, both from Carleton.  She has training in change management and critical thinking, and is fluently bilingual (English, French).

"I'm very pleased that Kelly Robertson has accepted the position," said Norm Gale, City Manager. "I look forward to her leadership in our Recreation and Facilities Master Plan, and all aspects of her diverse department. Ms. Robertson has relocated to Thunder Bay, and she is eager to enjoy our lifestyle and attractions."

The Community Services department enriches the quality of life for citizens of all ages by providing a balance of social, cultural, recreation and sports services, facilities, and transit services, in a cost effective, fair and accessible manner.

"For the past year-and-a-half, Gerry Broere has acted as the department's General Manager and he has done terrific work leading many complex projects and providing overall leadership to the Department," added Gale. "I appreciate his contribution to our leadership team, and I'm happy all this will continue when, with my thanks, he returns to his home position as Director of Asset Management."

Ms. Robertson begins her role as the General Manager of Community Services effective Feb. 21, 2017.
