PRO Kids launched the third annual “Power to Play” fundraising campaign, taking place throughout the month of April. The campaign aims to raise $50,000 to help local children and youth access recreational programs when their families cannot afford the fees.

“Registration fees have been identified as the main barrier to kids participating in recreation and sport,” said Doug Eddington, PRO Kids Board of Directors Chairperson. “Recreation allows kids to develop skills, enhance self-esteem, and prioritize healthy lifestyle choices. It is important that all kids are able to participate and reap the benefits of sports and recreation."

PRO Kids has helped over 28,000 children access community activities in the last 25 years. It’s crucial that PRO Kids raise $110,000 annually to support the placement of local children into registered programs. Fundraising campaigns such as Power to Play are vital to reaching this target.

“The idea of the Power to Play campaign is that by donating, you are not just covering the cost of fees, you are being a cheerleader for kids in our community,” said Laura Daniele, PRO Kids Coordinator. “You are ensuring that they have equal access to sport and recreation, allowing them to make friends and have fun. By donating you are being a ‘Number One Fan’ of a child in need.”

White Pine Electric is kicking off this year’s campaign with a generous donation of $5,000.

“Supporting local initiatives that benefit our community has always been a priority of ours,” said Jordan Ball, Project Manager of White Pine Electric. “This is our third year donating to Power to Play. All children and youth in our community should have the opportunity to play hockey, learn to swim, or take music lessons, while making friends and enjoying their life.”
