The community is invited to grab their skates and get active outside as part of the PRO Kids’ Skate-2-Win Campaign which runs until March 14. Families are encouraged to go skating at their favourite outdoor spot for some quality time together while enjoying healthy activity in support of PRO Kids.

PRO Kids was unable to host its annual Spring Skate at the Fort William Gardens due to COVID-19 restrictions, but that hasn’t stopped the charity from promoting recreational activity. “Participating in healthy physical activity has never been more important,” said Laura Daniele, PRO Kids Coordinator. “We will miss hosting hundreds of participants at the Fort William Gardens this spring, but we are lucky to live in a city that provides an abundance of outdoor opportunity for recreation.”

With many public outdoor rinks available, in addition to backyard rinks and ponds, families can participate in Skate-2-Win by going for a skate, taking a photo of their fun, posting it on their preferred social media platform, and tagging #PROKidsS2W. All tagged photos will be entered to win a weekly prize. Winners will be announced on the PRO Kids Facebook page each Monday.

Donations are encouraged in support of Skate-2-Win and can be made on our Pro Kids page. All funds raised support PRO Kids, which is a registered charity dedicated to helping families in financial need access recreation for their children. This includes registration fees as well as equipment costs.

PRO Kids strives to level the playing field so that all children and youth have an equal opportunity to reap the benefits of recreational activity. As part of the campaign, donated skates were provided to PRO Kids families on Feb. 13. Over 30 children were provided with lightly used skates and when needed, new helmets.

“We wanted to launch this campaign knowing that skating was accessible to all families in our community,” said Daniele. “We held a skate giveaway for our PRO Kids families using our surplus of donated skates!”
“What a fantastic thing that PRO Kids are doing!” commented one mother in attendance at the skate giveaway. “I was able to purchase skates for one of my children this year but could not afford to get a pair for my youngest. Thank you so very much for this opportunity!”

PRO Kids would like to thank Circle K for its sponsorship and its continued support.
