June 29, 2015 – Work to restore the section of trail around Boulevard Lake where asphalt cracking appeared this spring will commence on Tuesday, June 30.

The section of trail is on the southwest side of the lake, near the intersection of Lyon Boulevard and Arundel Street. It was closed on May 26 after cracks began appearing in its surface.

An engineering assessment has been completed, and the cause of the cracking is attributed to significant frost heaving from the extremely cold winter and cross-section geometry. During the restoration work, enhancements will be made to the existing pavement structure to make it more resistant to frost heaving. The slope beside the trail will be flattened, as well.
The restoration work will be completed at no cost to the City.

The work is expected to take two weeks, and the trail and southbound lane of Lyon Boulevard will remain closed for the duration.

Pedestrian traffic will still have access through the area. As needed, the contractor will close the road to all vehicle traffic to complete the work. Road closure notices will be provided to the public ahead of time.

A contractor will be on-site Monday, June 29 in preparation for the commencement of the work on Tuesday, June 30.
