Returning Officer Krista Power has officially certified the candidates for the 2022 Municipal and School Board Election. The French School Board saw most candidates receiving acclamation to office, and the French Separate School Board had an extension of the nomination deadline.

“I’d like to thank everyone who came forward to register their nomination to be a candidate for Thunder Bay City Council and School Boards,” said City Clerk Krista Power, Returning Officer. “We’re excited to start sharing more information with voters in the coming weeks about why it’s important to vote, all of the different ways to vote, candidate information and much more.”

Certification of Candidates

  • As required by the Municipal Elections Act 1996, all candidates must be examined and certified to confirm the qualification of all candidates complies with the Municipal Elections Act under Section 35 (2) of the Act. 
  • Attached are the certified copies of all candidates for the 2022 Municipal Election, for both City Council and all School Boards. 
  • Any candidates who were deemed ineligible have been contacted and so advised as required.

Acclamations to Office

  • The Returning Officer has declared the following candidates for French Separate School Board to be acclaimed as per Section 37 of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996: Angéle Desbiens, Claudette Gleeson, Elodie Grunerud and Donald Pelltier
  • The Returning Officer has also declared following candidate for French Public School Board to be acclaimed as per Section 37 of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996: Anne-Marie Gélineault

Extension of Nomination Period   French Separate School Board only

  • If the number of nominations filed for an office and certified under section 35 is less than the number of persons to be elected to the office, additional nominations may be filed.
  • Notice is hereby provided to the public that the French Separate School Board currently has less than the number of persons required to be elected to that office. 
  • Nominations will only be accepted at City Hall between 9 am and 2 pm on Aug. 24 as well as applicable City Hall offices across the region.
