SEPTEMBER 2019

WHEREAS, Sickle Cell Disease is a life-threatening and incurable blood disorder affecting over 5,000 Canadians. September is Sickle Awareness Month. During this month, the Sickle Cell Association of Ontario fosters awareness and education of Sickle Cell Disease to the communities in Ontario; and

WHEREAS, the Sickle Cell Association of Ontario provides support and services to individuals and families with Sickle Cell to help improve their social and mental wellbeing; and

WHEREAS, During the month of September, the members of the Sickle Cell community will come together to help strengthen the awareness of Sickle Cell through workshops, support groups, campaigns, and celebration events held across Ontario; and

WHEREAS, The Sickle Cell Association of Ontario encourages the City of Thunder Bay to join other communities across Ontario in the awareness and support of Sickle Cell Awareness Month. With further awareness, we can bring hope for the treatment and cure of Sickle Cell.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Bill Mauro, Mayor of the City of Thunder Bay, do hereby proclaim September 2019, as Sickle Cell Awareness Month in the City of Thunder Bay.
