March 16, 2017 - Thunder Bay has been announced as a selected city to host the unique cinematic dome screening of the 360° film "Horizon". In partnership with the province, through Ontario150, SESQUI has announced its revolutionary immersive cinematic dome tour will be visiting six communities across Ontario. Thunder Bay has been selected and will host the dome July 24 - July 28, in the Intercity Shopping Centre Parking Lot. The dome screenings will be free of charge and everyone is welcome to attend and experience this unique attraction celebrating Ontario150.
The cutting edge cinematic dome will offer audiences of all ages a true 360° immersive experience of the 20-minute film "Horizon", with scenes shot in every province and territory, showcasing Canada's awe-inspiring landscapes, diversity of perspectives, artistic talents and the people that call Canada home.
Designed to inspire and captivate, "Horizon" is a visually stunning journey through Canada that will amplify the senses, giving audiences a front row seat to the wonders of our country. Participants will take a ride on an illuminated dragon boat on the Rideau Canal and be enveloped by the spectacular Northern Lights, among 90 other breathtaking scenes.
The Ontario tour stops of the dome, which include Toronto, London, Sault Ste. Marie, Richmond Hill, and Kingston in addition to Thunder Bay, are anticipated to provide an overall economic impact of $10.5M. SESQUI is investing more than $7M in small to mid-sized businesses within Ontario's growing immersive media sector, helping solidify the province's reputation as an incubator and driver of innovation.
"We are thrilled that Thunder Bay has been selected out of the many Ontario communities to host this once in a life time unique experience," said Doug Henry, Event Supervisor, Recreation and Culture Division. "Residents will have an opportunity to explore our great country without ever leaving the city. We are excited to be able to offer this in our community."
