August 27, 2015 - Following weeks of community consultation, service improvements to Thunder Bay Transit's fall schedule will begin on Sunday, Aug. 30.
"Our team met with hundreds of passengers to discuss the proposed changes and receive input," said Brad Loroff - Manager of Transit Services. "Route design changes are based on passenger feedback, and the proposed route network in the Transit Master Plan."
Service improvements include:
Route 1 Mainline
- Two-way service on Donald St. between May St. and Franklin St.
Route 2 Crosstown
- Two-way service on Court St. between John St. and Camelot St.
- Replace service between College and City Hall with a new route called 16 Balmoral (operates Monday to Saturday - start of service until 6 pm)
- Replace service between College and Westfort with a new route called 5 Edward (operates every day start to end of service)
- 2 Crosstown, 5 Edward, & 16 Balmoral are interlined for easy northbound/southbound destinations
Route 3A Airport
- Rename route to 14 Arthur
- Expand service to College Aviation Centre
Route 3N Northwood
- Rename route to 10 Northwood
- Introduce service to Hogarth Riverview Manor (service will begin when construction of bus turnaround is complete)
- All day/everyday two-way service on Victoria Ave. between Edward St. and Vickers St.
Route 9 Junot
- Remove evening transfer requirements at Lakehead University
Route 12 East End
- Introduce service to Intercity Shopping Centre
- Area removed from route covered by route 16 Balmoral
New pocket schedules are available at City Hall Terminal, Confederation College, Lakehead University, and the Transit Office located at 570 Fort William Rd. Detailed, printable maps of all transit routes and schedules are also available at thunderbay.ca/smartertransit
