Transit Detour Notice: Live on the Waterfront Summer Send-Off

Due to the Live on the Waterfront Summer Send-Off, Water Street will be closed to traffic between Cumberland Street and Camelot Street on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

During the closure, buses that normally access Waterfront Terminal from Pearl Street and Water Street will use alternate routing via Algoma Street and Camelot Street.

The following routes will be affected:

  • Route 1 Mainline
  • Route 2 Crosstown
  • Route 11 John

Waterfront Terminal will remain accessible, and buses will continue to serve the terminal throughout the event.

Passengers can board and exit buses at available stops along the detour routes. Please allow extra travel time while the detour is in effect.

Service Notice: East End & Balmoral Detour 

Beginning Monday, June 29, 2026, Routes 12 East End and 16 Balmoral will operate on detour due to the City's Pacific Avenue bridge construction project. The detour is expected to remain in effect through late Fall 2026.

 

Route Changes

Route 16 Balmoral

  • Regular service will continue between City Hall and Confederation College.
  • On return trips, buses will transition into the East End route at Balmoral Avenue & Dease Street rather than returning directly to City Hall.

Route 12 East End

  • Buses will operate on a revised route using Main Street and Fort William Road to access the East End.
  • Customers may experience slightly longer travel times during construction.

  • Vickers St. & Victoria Ave.
  • Pacific Ave. & Simpson St.
  • Pacific Ave. & McIntosh St. (both directions)

Route 16 Balmoral

  • May St. & Miles St.
Temporary Stop Relocation

The stop at McPherson St. & Connolly St. has been temporarily relocated to Pacific Avenue, just before the McPherson Street intersection beside the church.

Additional temporary stops have also been added along Fort William Road to help maintain service during the detour.

We appreciate your patience as this important infrastructure work is completed.

Transit Detour Notice: Cumberland Street Closure – Waterfront Terminal Access

Beginning Monday, June 8, 2026, Cumberland Street between Pearl Street and Park Avenue will be closed as part of ongoing downtown revitalization efforts.

As a result, Thunder Bay Transit routes serving Waterfront Terminal will use alternate routing to enter and exit the terminal area.

Affected routes:

  • Route 1 Mainline
  • Route 2 Crosstown
  • Route 11 John
  • Route 13 John/Jumbo

Stops temporarily out of service:

  • Stop #1189 – Cumberland & Red River Rd
  • Stop #1190 – Cumberland & Pearl
  • Stop #1120 – Cumberland & Red River Rd

Passengers are encouraged to use nearby stops and allow extra travel time while this closure is in effect.
