Council Approves Extending Patio Program for 2021

Many Thunder Bay’s businesses continue to be impacted by the pandemic and it is anticipated that local retailers and restaurants may not be able to operate at full capacity again this spring. To offer assistance, a Report requesting that the 2020 special Patio Program be extended to include the 2021 patio season was presented and approved by City Council last night.

Curbside waste collection dates, city wide, will change next week due to Good Friday.
Garbage and recycling collection will move one day earlier next week, starting on March 29, for all residents. There will be no collection on Good Friday.

Ninth Annual Awards Presented to respect. Champions

The ninth annual respect. Award recipients were announced during the Diversity Thunder Bay Celebration yesterday with the honour going to one individual and one local business, based on their efforts to exemplify respect in our community. Community leader Terry Bannon and Bay Village Coffee received a respect. Award for their efforts promoting attitudes, beliefs and behaviours that demonstrate respect.

The City of Thunder Bay announces the return of Quest, the annual tech and gaming event, taking place from April 30 – May 2. The event will be virtual this year, and includes esports tournaments and tech-related educational workshops and programming.

The City’s Municipal Emergency Control Group met today with community partners as part of its ongoing management of the COVID-19 situation. The group received an update on vaccine rollout in the region, as well as the efforts being made to secure more vaccine doses.
Through his various outreach to other orders of government, Mayor Mauro confirmed that the region will be seeing additional doses of vaccines moving forward.
