City to Host Evacuees from Neskantaga First Nation

Neskantaga First Nation has self-evacuated approximately 233 people to Thunder Bay after an unknown sheen in the water reservoir forced the shutdown of the community’s water system.
The Provincial Emergency Operations Centre has requested that Thunder Bay serve as a host community for the First Nation’s vulnerable population, including children, elders and families that have already evacuated to Thunder Bay.

City Collaborates with District Humane Society

The Thunder Bay and District Humane Society has offered to take in stray cats on a temporary basis to allow the City’s Animal Services Centre to focus on providing essential core services during the pandemic.

Culvert Work Closes Section of Multi-Use Trail

Users of the City’s Multi-Use Trails are advised that a section of trail at the northwest corner of Harbour Expressway and Golf Links Road is currently closed to restore a culvert that has heaved.
Trail users can avoid the closure by detouring to the trail east of the McIntyre River, from Central Avenue to Confederation College.
The City expects to re-open the trail by Friday, Oct. 30.

Leaf and Yard Waste Collection Begins October 27

The City of Thunder Bay’s curbside collection of organic leaf and yard waste will take place from Oct. 27 to Nov. 6 during residents’ regular recycling days.
Homeowners must use paper bags for leaf and yard waste. Kraft paper bags are available at most hardware and grocery stores. Regular weight limits of 18 kg/40 lbs. per bag apply.
