Extra Item of Garbage Allowed after New Year’s Day

Due to the increase of waste during the holiday season, the City will allow residents to put out a third item garbage with no tag on the first collection date after New Year’s Day.

Residents are reminded that wrapping paper cannot be recycled because of its high ink content. Wrapping paper must be thrown away in the garbage.

Outdoor Boarded Skating Rinks Open December 24

The City’s boarded outdoor skating rinks will open for public enjoyment on Thursday, Dec. 24.
Some of the boarded rinks require further flooding and maintenance prior to officially opening – check local signage. Skating is permitted when closed, at the user’s discretion.
Unboarded skating ponds are still being prepared, pending weather conditions. Residents are reminded that throughout the season, ice conditions change with the weather and can result in short-notice closures.

Christmas Tree Drop-off Sites Open Boxing Day

The City will once again recycle natural trees from Dec. 26 - Jan. 12, grinding the trees into wood chips to be added to the compost pile at the City’s Solid Waste & Recycling Facility. Compost is given away each spring to beautify residents' lawns and flower gardens.

Facilities Close as Province Moves Region to 14-Day Lockdown

Premier Doug Ford announced today that a province-wide lockdown will be imposed starting at 12:01am on Dec. 26, placing the northern parts of Ontario, including the Thunder Bay District Health Unit zone, under a 14-day lockdown.
