Waste Collection Changes for Easter Holiday

Curbside waste collection dates, city-wide, will change next week due to Good Friday.

Garbage and recycling collection will move one day earlier next week, starting on April 15, for all residents. There will be no collection on Good Friday.

Multiple Fires Caused by Candles Last Week

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to multiple structural fires last week and after investigating, determined that two were caused by candles.

“We’re very concerned about the latest string of fires caused by candles,” said Fire Chief John Hay. “These fires were totally preventable. Instead of candles, we recommend choosing CSA-approved battery-powered candles.”

This incident prompted Thunder Bay Fire Rescue to remind residents that residents need to do everything they can to prevent fires from starting.

Thunder Bay Among Communities Preparing to Host Evacuees

The City of Thunder Bay is among communities that have been asked by the Province to host residents of Kashechewan First Nation due to potential for flooding.
