Change Your Batteries When You Change Your Clocks

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue reminds residents to change the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms when they change their clocks this weekend.

“With the pending time change comes an opportunity to educate the community about the importance of testing and changing the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, “ said Fire Chief John Hay. “Working smoke alarms give you the early warning needed to safely escape a fire, and only a carbon monoxide alarm can alert you to the presence of CO.”

Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week 2018

Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week starts today and runs until Nov. 7. Ontario Law requires carbon monoxide (CO) alarms to be installed outside of all sleeping areas in all residences that have any of the following:

  • a fuel-fired appliance;
  • a fireplace, or
  • an attached garage.

In condo or apartment buildings with a service room that has a fuel-fired appliance, CO alarms must be installed in the service room and outside all sleeping areas in residences above, below and beside the service room. In condo or...

Fatal Fire at Taylor Drive Under Investigation

A fire investigation is underway to determine the origin and cause of a fire at 18 Taylor Drive which sent one person to hospital and resulted in the death of another. The investigation is being conducted by investigators from the Office of the Fire Marshal.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue kicked-off Fire Prevention Week at Nor’wester View Elementary School today. Students from the grade 4/5 class educated a gymnasium full of classmates, teachers and Thunder Bay Fire Rescue personnel on general home fire safety and the importance of working smoke alarms.

Fire Prevention Week runs from Oct. 7-13, and this year’s theme is, “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere.”

Fire Rescue Welcomes New 2018 Recruits

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue will host its formal graduation ceremony tomorrow morning, Saturday, Oct. 6, to welcome seven recruits, as well as to pay tribute to those honoured with Long-Term Service Awards.
