Waste Collection Date Changes for Remembrance Day 2022

The upcoming Remembrance Day holiday will result in date changes for waste, recycling, and leaf and yard collections during the week of Nov. 7, 2022. City residents will receive collection one day earlier.

On Election Day, October 24, the municipalities of Shuniah and Thunder Bay declared an emergency under the Municipal Elections Act because of a flawed ballot for English Separate School Board Trustee for the Thunder Bay District Catholic School Board that affected residents in Shuniah only.

Leaf & Yard Waste Collection November 1-10

The City’s fall curbside collection of organic leaf and yard waste will take place from Nov. 1-10, on residents’ regular recycling days. Note that waste & recycling collection during the week of Nov. 7 will move one day earlier due to Remembrance Day on Friday, Nov. 11.
Homeowners must use Kraft (paper) bags for leaf and yard waste. Kraft bags are available at most hardware and grocery stores. Regular weight limits of 18 kg/40 lbs. per bag apply.

The City of Thunder Bay is conducting a review of its emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic. To gain a full 360° perspective of response efforts to date, the City is inviting public feedback through an online survey and in-person focus group sessions.
