Christmas Tree Drop-Off Sites Open Boxing Day 2022

Each year, the City of Thunder Bay offers a Christmas tree chipping program from Boxing Day to January 12.

Fresh-cut Christmas trees can be dropped off at several locations across the city, where they will be collected, chipped and added to the compost pile at the City's landfill. In the spring, when the compost is mature, it is provided to residents free of charge to enrich flower gardens and lawns.

Prince Arthur’s Landing Ice Rink Opens Dec. 2

The ice rink at Prince Arthur's Landing will officially open on Friday, Dec. 2, operating Monday through Wednesday from 12 pm to 8 pm and Thursday to Sunday from 12 pm to 9 pm.

Residents and visitors of all ages and abilities are welcome to enjoy skating at the waterfront throughout the winter months.

“Facility Attendants are now on duty and are looking forward to welcoming the public back this winter season,” said Catherine Wilson, Community & Event Development Coordinator.

The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to announce the 2023 Call to Artists for Snow Sculpture submissions. The Recreation & Culture Division will host its annual Snow Sculpture Competition as part of SnowDay on the Waterfront, which takes place on Family Day in February.

Online Survey Opens on City’s Summer Event Series

Thunder Bay’s Cultural Developments & Events Division is seeking input on their 2022 Summer Events Series.

These events included the Maamawe Festival, Canada Day on the Waterfront, and the Live on the Waterfront evening concert series.

“Our Summer Events Series was very well attended this past summer,” said Karen Bonazzo, Special Events Developer. “We’re looking forward to receiving feedback as we plan for our exciting 2023 season.”
