Crime Prevention Thunder Bay invites everyone to get involved and have their say during the Phase 2 Community Engagement process for Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) Planning. A series of virtual public forums are scheduled from March 2-18. The free sessions kick off with a Community Information Session, recapping the findings from 2020 Phase 1 and detailing next steps in the Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) planning process. The online consultation sessions will focus on key priority areas identified for the plan, and seek input on activities and strategies the community would like to see for each.
“We encourage everyone to register for one or all of the upcoming virtual consultation sessions to help us shape a plan to improve safety and well-being for everyone in Thunder Bay,” said Lee-Ann Chevrette, Crime Prevention Council Coordinator – City of Thunder Bay. “Everyone’s voice matters as we chart a path forward as one city growing together.”
Public engagement and consultation, including forums, focus groups, community conversations and an online community survey were part of the Phase 1 Community Engagement process, which helped to inform the selection of six local priorities for action, including: housing; racism and discrimination; mental well-being; community violence, with a focus on gender-based violence; poverty reduction and financial empowerment; and supports for children, youth and families.
The Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019, S.O. 2019, c. 1, Sched. 1 Part XVI mandates every municipality across Ontario to prepare and adopt a Community Safety and Well-being Plan by July 1, 2021. On March 11, 2019, Thunder Bay City Council appointed the Crime Prevention Council as the Advisory Committee to oversee the development of the CSWB plan for Thunder Bay.
