Summer 2023

Chippewa Summer Camps is a registered week long summer camp program for children 5-13! We focus on nature-based activities and outdoor skill building while on the shores of Lake Superior. Each week is themed and days are packed with arts & crafts, sports & games, camp skills, swimming and so much more!

For your child's safety, we require a completed Participant Information Form (provided at registration) to be submitted by email to chippewasummercamps@thunderbay.ca no later that 4:30pm on the Wednesday of the week prior to camp.

July 3-7  Summer Blast Off! (15730)

Start the summer off with a blast! Come join us for some fun in the sun at Chippewa Park as we celebrate our first week of camp. Activities include a little bit of everything Chippewa has to offer. Activities include games, crafts, exploration hikes, and fire-building. Don’t let this summer slip by, join us!

 

July 10-14  Little Explorers (15731)

Unleash the adventurer in you, Little Explorer! Our camp is designed to spark the love of nature in every camper. Through gaining basic knowledge of the great outdoors and venturing on nature walks, fire building, shelter building and many more exciting activities, you are sure to make unforgettable memories and discoveries with us!

 

July 17-21  Ninja Warriors (15732)

Become a Ninja Warrior at Chippewa Summer Camps! You will have a blast in this high energy camp as you complete challenges and games that are sure to bring out your hidden ninja skills. Get your stealth on, it’s time to become a Ninja Warrior

July 24-28  Tasty Adventures (15733)
Bon appetite! This week, your little ones will embark on wild culinary journey to explore different cuisines and flavors from around the world. Our young chefs will roll up their sleeves and dive into fun and delicious camp cooking.  With hands-on activities, games, and fun challenges, we are going to cook up some fun this week!

 

July 31-August 4  Pirate's Paradise (15734)

Ahoy Mateys! Welcome to Pirate’s Pradise, where young pirates-in-training can live out their wildest swashbuckling dreams. Campers will embark on a journey filled with pirate training, games, and challenges while on a quest to find the legendary treasure of the notorious pirate Blackbeard! Face the rival pirate crews and solve puzzles to be rewarded for your hard-earned treasures! Join us for an unforgettable adventure at Chippewa Summer Camps AKA Pirate’s Paradise!

 

August 8-11  Circus in the Wild (15735)  4 day camp!

Step right up to the wild side of the circus, where adventure and excitement await! Enjoy a variety of circus-themed games, crafts, and activities that will keep campers engaged and entertained in the great outdoors. Join the circus fun and let the wildness begin at Circus in the Wild!

 

August 14-18  Super Sleuths (15736)

Calling all detectives! Get ready to sharpen your skills and solve some of the most intriguing mysteries at Chippewa Summer Camps. From decoding secret messages and tracking down clues to solving puzzles and cracking codes, campers will feel like real-life detectives. Grab your magnifying glass and get ready to uncover the truth, one clue at a time!

 

August 21-25  Summer Sundown (15737)

Savor the last bit of fun-in-the-sun with us at Chippewa Summer Camps! Each day will be centered on a different theme and filled with excitement. One day we may be Superheroes and the next we may be Mad Scientists! As the sun sets for the summer, let’s make memories to last a lifetime!

July 3-7  Summer Adventure (15738)

Are you ready to unleash your inner adventurer and explore the best that Chippewa has to offer?  This week is packed with a variety of outdoor activities and games. Campers will have the opportunity to explore the great outdoors and engage in a range of activities such as hiking, fire-building, teambuilding challenges, and crafts such as tie-dye!  Don’t miss out on a week filled with fun, memories, a ton of outdoor activities.

 

July 10-14  Wilderness Warriors (15739)

Embark on a wild adventure and become a Wilderness Warrior at Chippewa Summer Camps. This camp is designed for young outdoor enthusiasts who are ready to explore and learn survival skills. Activities include fire-building, shelter building, canoeing, navigating through wilderness, and other activities that will challenge the natural warrior in you! Join us and you will gain new skills and memories to conquer the wilderness.

 

July 17-21  Splashin' & Dashin' (15740)

Are you ready to make a splash and dash your way through summer? Join us this week where everyday is a water adventure. Activities include canoeing & kayaking, water sports, arts and crafts, and fun obstacle courses. Campers will make new friends, learn new skills, and have some fun in the sun!

July 24-28  Amazing Race (15741)

In this high-energy camp, teams will have to work together to make it to the pit-stop at the end of each day. The racers will follow clues as they travel across the park and complete challenges to see which team can work together the most successfully. But be careful, there are detours, roadblocks, and even U-turns which may trip up even the quickest team! On Thursday night, the challenges will end at a sleep-out at Chippewa Park. Pick-up will be noon on Friday at campers’ designated pool.

 

July 31-August 4  Master Chef Junior (15742)

Cook up a storm and become a Master Chef at Chippewa Summer Camps. This week, campers will participate in creating delicious dishes, and playing food-themed games. Each day, teams will be presented with new challenges and compete for the Master Chef trophy! Roll up your sleeves and get ready for a scrumptious and a friendly competitive week.

 

August 8-11  Olympics (15743)  4 day camp!

Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just looking for fun, this week is sure to be a thrilling experience. Join us as we journey through the world of sports and compete in events like relay races, sports, heated games of dodge ball, and so much more. Be a part of the camp’s own mini-Games where you can earn medals and have a blast in a fun and supportive environment.

 

August 14-18  Camp Challenge (15744)

In this outdoor skills-based camp, challengers will have to work together as a team to show off their outdoor abilities. As a unit, the campers must survive the elements, construct shelter, build fire, and look for water among other challenges. Each day brings new and exciting tasks to test your limits and push you to the next level. On Thursday night, challenges will ended as the teams participate in closing ceremonies at a sleep-out at Chippewa Park. Pick-up will be at noon on Friday at campers’ designated pool.

Drop off and Pick Up Information

Bus transportation will be provided for campers with safe protocols in place. Families can select either Volunteer Pool or Churchill Pool as designated Pick up/Drop off locations. 

Drop off at Churchill Pool or Volunteer Pool: Between 8:00am - 8:45am (buses leave at 9am SHARP)

Pick up at Churchill Pool or Volunteer Pool: Between 4:30 pm - 5 pm

 

Things to know

  • Registration is required – call 625-8463 to register starting May 15th!
  • Chippewa is nut safe – any food sent from home must be nut safe.
  • Please pack plenty of water, food, athletic footwear and a hat, as well as a bathing suit & towel!
  • Ensure your child is wearing sunscreen.
  • A Participant Information Form is needed before the start of camp.
  • If your child has a disability or requires extra support, we welcome them to come with a PSW or support may be provided through Junior Inclusion Services.

 

Staff and volunteers

 Staff
All staff is trained in First Aid and HIGH FIVE. HIGH FIVE supports the healthy development of children in recreation and sport.

 Where are camps located?
Camps are based at Chippewa Park on the shores of beautiful Lake Superior
 Camp Environment

Maximum Camper to Leader ratio is 10 to 1.

 Transportation

Drop off and pick up is at Volunteer Pool or Churchill Pool (identify which location during registration). Bus transportation to Chippewa Park is provided by an accredited bus company for campers and staff.  

 Swimming

Weather dependent, there is also lifeguard supervised swimming at Sandy Beach near Chippewa Park a couple times throughout the week and three times a week at the pools at the end of the day from 3:30-4:30pm
