Christmas Tree Drop-off Sites Open Boxing Day

The City will once again recycle natural trees this holiday season, grinding the trees into wood chips to be added to the compost pile at the City’s Solid Waste & Recycling Facility. Compost is given away each spring to beautify residents' lawns and flower gardens.

Impacts to City Services Following New Provincial Regulations

Following the Government of Ontario’s announcement on Friday of new restrictions, including reduced capacity limits for most indoor settings, impacts to City services and recreation facilities will occur.
Starting at 12:01 am on Sunday, all City arenas and recreational facilities will have an indoor capacity limit of 50%. City Conducts In-Depth Analysis of Seven Youth Inquest Actions

In late June, the City submitted its annual report on the implementation of the Seven Youth Inquest Recommendations. Of the 31 recommendations aimed at the City, 25 were considered to be short term, with the remaining six considered to be longer-term.
Yesterday, Jonathan Rudin, legal counsel from Aboriginal Legal Services of Toronto presented Inquest partners with their annual grade on the implementation of those recommendations, with the City increasing its grade from a B in 2020 to an A- in 2021.

City Passes New Fireworks and Shopping Cart By-laws

Thunder Bay’s City Council recently passed new by-laws to regulate fireworks discharge and sale, and to address the problem of abandoned shopping carts.
The new fireworks regulations, under new Fireworks By-law 86-2021, come into effect immediately. Key points under the new fireworks by-law:
