CEDC Launches New Tourism Support Programs

The Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) is pleased to announce the launch of two new funding programs to support tourism industry growth through the CEDC’s share of the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT).

Victoria Avenue Between Edward and Lillie Streets to be Resurfaced

Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, August 14, Victoria Avenue, between Edward Street and Lillie Street, will be resurfaced. Work will include removing the existing asphalt surface and re-paving with two new lifts of asphalt. Road Work Season Continues in Thunder Bay

The City of Thunder Bay is investing $30 million in 2019 on road and sidewalk rehabilitation, residential paving, sanitary and storm sewers, watermain repair/replacement, bridge and culvert work, and streetlight renewal.

Road work can result in road closures, detours and delays for drivers, but the inconvenience ultimately results in improved infrastructure. All residents are reminded to reduce their speed, be alert, watch for workers and drive with extra care in construction zones.

Monitoring Wells Installed at Boulevard Lake Park

DST Consulting Engineers will be installing monitoring wells and sampling soil and groundwater on the festival field at Boulevard Lake Park. DST will be installing fencing to keep the public and trail users safe and separated from the drill rig.

Work is set to begin on August 6, and it is expected to take four days to complete the work.

All residents are reminded to obey all posted signage, respect the fenced-off area and use extra caution when near the work zone.

Residents Reminded to Follow the Fireworks By-law and Stay Safe

Residents are reminded that fireworks within the city can only be discharged during specified holidays and the three days leading up to them. Holidays which permit fireworks include: New Year’s Day, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Holiday, Labour Day, New Year’s Eve, and the Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year). Resident are encouraged to be respectful of their neighbours and follow the fireworks by-law. Fireworks are not to be discharged at any other time.
