Residents Invited to Celebrate National Public Works Week

Residents are invited to celebrate National Public Works Week at a free open house this weekend that will highlight and celebrate the work that public servants do to keep our city running. 

The open house for residents will take place on Saturday, May 25, from 11 am – 2 pm at the Mountdale Public Works Yard, 410 Mountdale Ave. The open house will feature:

Motorists to Exercise Extra Caution in Construction Zones

The City is reminding motorists to exercise extra caution in construction zones by slowing down and driving safely.

Spring marks the start of a busy road construction season and projects will increase in the coming weeks. Construction crews are required to follow strict safety protocols and traffic control measures. Members of the public are asked to also do their part to keep workers and other travelers safe.

Reduced Load Restrictions Will Be Lifted Tuesday

The Reduced Load Restrictions that were implemented on March 15 within the city will be lifted on Tuesday, May 21 at 8 am. 

Restrictions are put in place annually to protect city roads from damage during the spring thaw. Cooperation from residents helps prevent excessive damage to streets.

One Extra Item of Garbage Allowed Next Week

The City will allow residents to put out a third item of garbage with no tag on the first collection date after the Victoria Day holiday.

Residents are reminded to still try and reduce waste by using the six R’s:

  • Rethink: Think about waste before you buy. Avoid ‘disposable’ products.
  • Refuse: Say no to plastic bags in stores – bring your own instead.

Pioneer Ridge Long-Term Care and Senior Services celebrated its 25th year milestone on Thursday, May 16. Named after the founders of our city, Pioneer Ridge was originally built in 1994 as a Home for the Aged by the City of Thunder Bay. Today the Long-Term Care and Senior Services facility provides care and services to 150 long-term care residents, 120 supportive housing tenants, and meals for approximately 250 city residents through the Meals on Wheels program.
