City Welcomes Announcement of Provincial Funding for New Jail

May 4, 2017 - The City of Thunder Bay welcomes the announcement from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services that funding has been approved for the construction of a new 325-bed multi-purpose correctional centre to replace the existing Thunder Bay Jail and Thunder Bay Correctional Centre.

May 3, 2017 - Members of the Crime Prevention Council and Strong Neighbourhoods Working Group announced the 7th Annual Jane's Walk Festival taking place this coming weekend, where Thunder Bay residents will take to the streets to participate in a variety of walks around city neighbourhoods.

Carbon Monoxide Alarms Provide Early Warning

May 2, 2017 - Thunder Bay Fire Rescue have responded to four homes for carbon monoxide (CO) alarm calls in the past 14 days that were the result of CO being present in the residence. In each incident the occupants were alerted to the CO emergency by their CO alarms.

Chippewa Wildlife Exhibit Update

May 2, 2017 - The Chippewa Wildlife Exhibit officially closed Monday as approved during the 2017 Municipal Budget deliberations.
Following is an update on the animals:
Transfers of the animals from the Chippewa Wildlife Exhibit are being coordinated through an animal transporter, who has already transferred four foxes and one bobcat.
Three elk and one deer were scheduled to be transferred last week after Tuberculosis (TB) testing.

Citizen Satisfaction Survey Underway

May 2, 2017 - The City of Thunder Bay has commissioned Ipsos, a professional public opinion research company, to conduct the 2017 Citizen Satisfaction Survey by telephone to a random selection of residents.
The survey will take place over the next two weeks and includes a wide range of topics including the most important issues facing the community, quality of like, importance of and satisfaction with municipal services, and communication needs.
