City Announces 2018 Canada Day Festivities

The City of Thunder Bay is delighted to announce its upcoming Canada Day festivities, scheduled for Sunday, July 1 at Marina Park.
With past attendance estimated at over 20,000, Canada Day remains Thunder Bay’s largest annual single-day event. Festivities begin at 5 pm, with entertainment and activities for people of all ages.

Section of Victoria Avenue to Close to Westbound Traffic

A section of Victoria Avenue, between Lillie Street and Waterloo Street, will be closed to westbound traffic due to asphalt resurfacing.
Construction will begin on Tuesday, June 19 and is expected to take up to two weeks to complete.
Delaney Arena and Fort William Stadium parking lot can be accessed by following the posted detour route at Brunswick Street and Legion Track Drive.
Motorists are asked to use extra caution and obey all posted signage when travelling near the construction area.

June 14, 2018 - The Waterfront Splash Pad at Prince Arthur's Landing officially opens for the season in Marina Park on Friday, June 15. The City of Thunder Bay encourages residents to come down to the waterfront on hot sunny days to cool off and enjoy the many events, activities and facilities available to the public during the summer months.

Rat Prevention & Control Educational Campaign Launches

June 13, 2018 - The City of Thunder Bay, in partnership with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, launched its Rat Prevention & Control educational campaign, and unveiled a promotional video and brochure today.
In 2017, City Council approved the introduction of a formal promotion and education campaign to educate residents on effective control methods to prevent an increase in the rat population.

CN Ordered to Reopen Bridge for Vehicle Traffic

June 11, 2018 - In response to the City's appeal heard in January 2018 by the Court of Appeal for Ontario, CN has been ordered to reopen the James Street Swing Bridge for all vehicles, including cars and trucks, and maintain it in accordance with its contractual obligation under the 1906 Agreement.
"This is a good day," said Mayor Keith Hobbs. "The highest court in Ontario has ruled in our favour, and we now look to CN to repair and reopen the bridge as they are obligated to do."
