New fee for firefighters to respond to broken gas lines

A growing number of calls involving homeowners and contractors hitting natural gas lines while digging has led to Thunder Bay Fire Rescue now charging to respond to this type of call.
If a homeowner or contractor has not requested a locate, and a gas line is severed or damaged, Fire Rescue will charge the current MTO Rate for each response vehicle that is sent to the specific call. The current fee is $543.03 per hour, per vehicle.

Culvert Replacement Impacts Section of Mapleward Road on August 22

A section of Mapleward Road between Arthur Street and Hickory Street will be under construction for culvert replacement on Tuesday, Aug. 22. Through traffic will experience delays in the construction area.
Residents are asked to avoid the area and find alternate routes if possible. The work is expected to be completed and the road fully reopened by the end of the day.
Motorists should drive with caution and be prepared to stop in the construction area.

Centennial Park’s Muskeg Express Reopening

The Muskeg Express train ride at Centennial Park is set to reopen on Saturday, August 19 following a temporary closure that was required in order to evaluate the operation. All inspections, testing and required repairs have been completed and the amusement ride has been approved for operation by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA).

Artists are invited to submit proposals for artwork to be displayed on the exterior of a Thunder Bay Transit bus, beginning this fall. Section of James Street South to Close August 14

James Street South between Gore Street West and Montreal Street will be closed on Monday, Aug. 14 to allow CN to perform track maintenance.
Access to Montreal Street will be available from Neebing Avenue.
The work is expected to be completed and the road reopened by the end of Monday.
Motorists are asked to obey any posted signage and drive with caution in the area.
