Service Changes

Starting Sunday, August 24, 2025, Thunder Bay Transit will be implementing service changes across several routes as part of ongoing service improvements. Improvements will focus on improving route safety, on-time performance and route reliability.

For upcoming schedules visit the Schedules and Maps page.

30-Minute Service Extension
Starting Sunday, August 24, 2025 all routes with 30-minute service will see an extended 30-minute service window until approximately 7:00pm Monday through Saturday.
Extended Evening Service
Starting Sunday, August 24, 2025 an additional trip at the end of service will be added to the following routes Monday through Saturday:
  • 9 – Junot
  • 10 – Northwood
  • 14 – Arthur
 Route 2 - Crosstown

Starting Sunday, August 24, 2025, Route 2 – Crosstown will be rerouted to improve route safety, on-time performance and reliability.

What’s Changing:
  • Achievable Route Times: To ensure the route can be completed reliably within the scheduled time, the Crosstown will no longer service the Jasper and Academy Heights area. Instead, they will be serviced by a new route – Route 15 – Beverly.

  • Simplified Routing: Route 2 – Crosstown previously followed different routing depending on the time of day. The new route will now follow the same routing all day every day, making it easier for passengers to understand and use.

  • More Consistent Connections: With the new Crosstown routing, buses are expected to meet their connections more consistently at key transfer points.

  • 22-Minute Service: 22-minute service returns to Route 2 – Crosstown for the upcoming school year. 22-minute service will run from 7:00pm until 10:30pm.

  • Service to Oliver Rd Medical Clinic: A new stop will be added near the 1040 Oliver Rd Medical Clinic, which was not previously serviced by Transit.

  • Hospital Detour: With the ongoing Hospital construction, the route has been adjusted to detour through the back of the Hospital.

  • Improved Route Safety: The left turn onto Golf Links Rd. from the Hospital is unpredictable due to high traffic volumes. To improve route safety and reliability, Route 2 – Crosstown will only be servicing the Hospital on inbound trips (from College to Waterfront).

Note: Passengers looking to stop at the Hospital on outbound trips (from Waterfront to College) can transfer to Route 9 – Junot at Lakehead University.

 Route 9 - Junot
Starting Sunday, August 24, 2025, Route 9 – Junot will be adjusted to better align with changes across the overall transit system.

What’s Changing:
  • Simplified Routing: Route 9 – Junot previously followed different routing depending on the time of day. The new route will now follow the same routing all day every day, making it easier for passengers to understand and use.

  • New End Point: Route 9 – Junot will end at Lakehead University and no longer travel to the Intercity area. This area will instead be serviced by Route 15 – Beverly.

Note: Route 9 – Junot will continue as Route 15 – Beverly (with service to the Intercity area) when it reaches Lakehead University.

  • Hospital Detour: With the ongoing Hospital construction, the route has been adjusted to detour through the back of the Hospital.

 Route 15 - Beverly
Starting Sunday, August 24, 2025, a new route - Route 15 – Beverly will be added.  Route 15 – Beverly will service the Jasper, Academy Heights and Intercity areas.

What’s New:
  • Connecting students to Intercity Area:  Students living in the Academy Heights area now benefit from a direct connection to the Intercity area. Previously, reaching this destination required travelling to a terminal and transferring to another route. This improvement enhances convenience and reduces travel time for students.

  • Improved Route Safety & Reliability: To ensure the route can be completed safely and reliably within the scheduled time, Route 15 - Beverly will remain on Beverly St instead of travelling on Academy and Ravenwood.

  • Improved Service to Jasper Dr: Previously serviced by Routes 2 – Crosstown and 9 – Junot. Route 15 – Beverly will provide a more consistent service to Jasper Dr. throughout the day.

Note: Passengers looking to travel to Confederation College from the Academy Heights area can transfer at Lakehead University or board the Crosstown at stops on Oliver Rd.

 Route 17 - Current River
Starting Sunday, August 24, 2025, Route 17 – Current River will be adjusted to increase route frequency and improve connection times.
