Incident Reporting Program Completes First Year in Thunder Bay

Have you experienced or witnessed racism in Thunder Bay? Since the Incident Reporting Program launched on June 27, 2017, a total of 176 reports have been filed either by or on behalf of people in Thunder Bay who have.

Results of the first year of the program were presented to City Council at Committee of the Whole tonight.

Mayor Responds to CN Notice it will Appeal Court Decision

CN has provided the City of Thunder Bay notice that it intends to appeal the Court of Appeal’s decision ordering CN to repair and reopen the James Street bridge to all traffic, including cars and trucks.

Mayor Keith Hobbs today made the following statement in response:

“We are beyond disappointed with this move. We are outraged.

We are confident that the decision of the Court of Appeal is correct. We believe CN is using the legal system to delay the inevitable, and that they are still fully responsible...

Ferrochrome Plant in North Presents Opportunities

Thunder Bay/Fort William First Nation leaders remain hopeful for new opportunities after learning this afternoon that Noront Resources’ ferrochrome processing plant to process chromite ore from the Ring of Fire will not be built in Thunder Bay.

Multi-use Trail to Close Next Week for Culvert Work

The popular multi-use trail under the Harbour Expressway linking Confederation College with Riverside Drive will be closed from Monday, July 16 until Wednesday, July 18 for culvert replacement work.

During construction, it will not be possible for trail users to pass safely under the Harbour Expressway. Sections of Victoria Avenue to Close for Line Painting Work

A section of Victoria Avenue will be closed for line painting work between Lillie Street and Waterloo Street. Work will begin on Monday, July 16 and is expected to take approximately five days to complete. 

Once this first section has been completed, line painting will then begin on another section of Victoria Avenue, from Waterloo Street to Selkirk Street. This work is anticipated to begin July 23, and will take three days to complete.
