Volunteering is a great way to give back to our community, learn new skills, meet new friends, gain work experience and have fun. There are also many options for high school students looking to earn their community involvement hours. To volunteer with the City you must be at least 13 years old and completed Grade 8.

Below are some highlights of upcoming and ongoing volunteer opportunities:

One-time City events

Volunteers are needed for community events throughout the year including:

  • kite festival
  • teddy bears picnic
  • Canada Day on the waterfront
  • snowday
  • winter fundays
  • movie nights on the waterfront
  • youth arts week
  • live on the waterfront

Ongoing opportunities - camps, playgrounds and swimming

Ongoing volunteers are needed for a number of programs throughout the year including:

  • summer camp programs
  • playgrounds
  • swimming lessons

Opportunities throughout the City

Volunteers are welcome in areas around the city.

Community Centres

  • Volunteers are needed so that local Community Centres can continue to offer various programs, services and events.

Meals on Wheels

  • To volunteer with Meals on Wheels as a driver or server call Thunder Bay North at 684-2862, or Thunder Bay South at 625-3667.

Thunder Bay 55 Plus Centre

 Teens 'N Training

Teens 'N Training is a dynamic course that empowers youth volunteers through training, leadership development and fun. TNT is designed for teens who have completed grade 8 up to age 17.

 

TNT is a 7 hour session that focusses on child development, worker safety awareness and the roles and responsibilities of a volunteer. It is mandatory for all volunteers with:

 

Teens in training takes place in early June at The Kinsmen Youth Centre.

Training and resources

Volunteers will receive on-site training and orientation for all programs and events. The City of Thunder Bay follows the Code For Volunteer Involvement.
