Road Construction Projects Continue as Season Wraps Up

October 13, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay is investing $19.1 million in 2016 on road improvements and related infrastructure, and projects around the city will continue through October and November as the busy construction season wraps up.

By the end of this year, 16 km of roads will be resurfaced or reconstructed. Pavements, street-lighting, traffic signals and underground infrastructure are being upgraded. This will include 6 km of watermain replacement or in-place rehabilitation, 2.5 km of sanitary...

Residents Encouraged to Take Action to Reduce House Fires

October 12, 2016 - As part of Fire Prevention Week October 9 to 15, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and the Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) are encouraging residents to take action to reduce the risk of house fires.

"In a matter of minutes a home can be completely engulfed in flames," said Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Chief John Hay. "Knowing how old your smoke alarms are and testing them monthly to ensure they are working properly is critical for helping people safely escape a fire."

Section of Cumberland Street to Close Saturday

October 12, 2016 - To accommodate removal of the asphalt and concrete road base near Gibson Avenue, northbound traffic on Cumberland Street will be detoured around Boulevard Lake on Saturday, Oct. 15.

The closure is expected to begin at 7 am and last until 12 pm that same day. Southbound traffic will be unaffected. Signage will be posted to direct motorists through the detour.

Drivers travelling in the area are asked to use extra caution and obey all posted signage.

Adult Outdoor Exercise Equipment Installed in Minnesota Park

October 11, 2016 - The City's Parks & Open Spaces Section has officially opened a new adult outdoor exercise equipment area at the south end of Minnesota Park, located between Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Avenue on the city's south side.

City Archives Celebrates Women's History Month

October 7, 2016 - During the month of October, the Status of Women Canada celebrates Women's History Month and City Archives is re-launching an on-line exhibit to recognize women who have contributed to the history of Thunder Bay.
