Christmas Tree Drop-Off Sites Open Boxing Day 2022

Each year, the City of Thunder Bay offers a Christmas tree chipping program from Boxing Day to January 12.

Fresh-cut Christmas trees can be dropped off at several locations across the city, where they will be collected, chipped and added to the compost pile at the City's landfill. In the spring, when the compost is mature, it is provided to residents free of charge to enrich flower gardens and lawns.

Residents Invited To Visit the Conservatory before its Temporary Closure

For residents seeking a reprieve from the winter elements, the Thunder Bay Centennial Botanical Conservatory is tropical paradise.

The Conservatory, typically open 7 days per week will be closed the following days during the holiday season:

  • December 23-26
  • December 30-January 1

However, those considering a visit are encouraged to not delay as the facility will remain closed after January 1 to allow for the temporary relocation of the plants and the preparation of the site for Phase 2 of the facility...

Southbound James Street Reduced to One Lane

Southbound traffic on James Street between Arthur and Isabella Streets is currently reduced to one lane to facilitate repairs to a sewer connection in the area.

The work is anticipated to be completed by the end of the day on Thursday, Dec. 15.

Motorists are asked to drive with caution in the area.

Skating at Prince Arthur's Landing - Thunder Bay

Prince Arthur’s Landing Ice Rink Opens Dec. 2

The ice rink at Prince Arthur's Landing will officially open on Friday, Dec. 2, operating Monday through Wednesday from 12 pm to 8 pm and Thursday to Sunday from 12 pm to 9 pm.

Residents and visitors of all ages and abilities are welcome to enjoy skating at the waterfront throughout the winter months.

“Facility Attendants are now on duty and are looking forward to welcoming the public back this winter season,” said Catherine Wilson, Community & Event Development Coordinator.
