City Urges Motorists to Drive with Caution

The City of Thunder Bay is advising residents to drive with caution as road conditions throughout the city are icy and slippery.

City roads crews are currently sanding and salting streets, and will continue these operations until conditions improve.

During all poor weather events, for safety reasons, residents are asked to limit any unnecessary trips, drive slowly, and maintain a safe distance between vehicles.

City Announces 2023 Snow Sculpture Competition

The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to announce the 2023 Call to Artists for Snow Sculpture submissions. The Recreation & Culture Division will host its annual Snow Sculpture Competition as part of SnowDay on the Waterfront, which takes place on Family Day in February.

Online Survey Opens on City’s Summer Event Series

Thunder Bay’s Cultural Developments & Events Division is seeking input on their 2022 Summer Events Series.

These events included the Maamawe Festival, Canada Day on the Waterfront, and the Live on the Waterfront evening concert series.

“Our Summer Events Series was very well attended this past summer,” said Karen Bonazzo, Special Events Developer. “We’re looking forward to receiving feedback as we plan for our exciting 2023 season.”

New Chief of Superior North EMS Appointed

Shane Muir has been appointed Chief of Superior North Emergency Medical Services for the City and District of Thunder Bay, effective December 19, 2022.

Commander Muir started his career as a paramedic with Superior North EMS in 2007. He was appointed Commander of EMS Operations (Acting) in May 2022. From 2020-2022 he was the Superintendent of Community Paramedicine and led the Superior North EMS COVID-19 Task Force.

Flag Raising at City Hall for Louis Riel Day

In a ceremony today, Mayor Ken Boshcoff and the Regional President of the Métis Nation of Ontario, Wendy Houston, raised the Métis flag at City Hall in honour of Louis Riel Day.
