Thunder Bay Honours Treaties Recognition Week 2022

Treaties Recognition Week is held across the province from Nov. 6 – 12, to recognize the importance of treaties and bring awareness to the treaty relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in the province of Ontario.

Thunder Bay is part of the Robinson-Superior Treaty signed in 1850. A plaque is displayed in City Hall lobby recognizing this treaty and reflecting the City’s continued commitment to fostering respectful relations and working with Indigenous partners.

On Election Day, October 24, the municipalities of Shuniah and Thunder Bay declared an emergency under the Municipal Elections Act because of a flawed ballot for English Separate School Board Trustee for the Thunder Bay District Catholic School Board that affected residents in Shuniah only.

James Street to Close Between Gordon Street and Mary Street

Beginning Monday, Oct. 31, James Street between Gordon Street and Mary Street will be closed to allow for rehabilitation work on the railway crossing.

The work is expected to last five days.

A detour route using Walsh Street to Neebing Avenue to Mary Street will be posted.

Motorists are asked to obey the construction signs, drive with caution in the area and to contact City Dispatch at 625-2195 if they experience any issues.
