Automated garbage cart usage begins next week for 25% of City households

Beginning next week, Thunder Bay residential households that received wheeled garbage carts in this year’s initial roll-out will begin using the carts for curbside garbage collection.
Approximately 25% of Thunder Bay residential households received garbage carts in this initial phase of the program. The remaining 75% of residential households will receive garbage carts in the spring of 2026.

Treasure Exchange Days coming September 20 & 21

The City’s twice-yearly Treasure Exchange Days event will take place on Sept. 20 & 21, in conjunction with the City’s Neighbour Day on Sept. 20.
Residents with used items in good condition that they wish to give away may leave them on the curb any time after 5 pm on Friday, Sept. 19, labelled “free.” Residents can then tour their neighbourhoods over the weekend to find treasures.

Closing time for amusement rides, pools, beaches, and splash pads

As summer fades to fall, the City has begun seasonal closures starting with Art Widnall and Heath pools on Aug. 31 followed by Sandy Beach at Chippewa Park and the Main Beach at Boulevard Lake on Sept. 1. Amusement rides at Chippewa Park and the Muskeg Express at Centennial Park are closed as of today.
