Are you interested in performing the National Anthem at a City Council meeting?

The City of Thunder Bay is showcasing our local musical talent with the inclusion of artists to perform the national anthem at City Council meetings.

We are looking for individuals and groups from Thunder Bay, those that currently reside in Thunder Bay or are part of an organization (e.g. School choir, Choral Group, etc.), to share their musical stylings with our community.

Eligibility 

To be eligible to perform the national anthem, you must:

  • Have previous experience performing in public
  • Be able to perform acapella
  • Be available at least 15 minutes prior to the meeting (meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays as per the approved schedule) 
  • Submit a sample of their musical skills (upon request)
  • Submit a completed application form

The following performers/performances are not eligible to participate:

  • Political parties or political organizations
  • The celebration of religious events
  • Commercial entities
  • If the intent is contrary to City policies or By-laws
  • If the group/individual espouses hatred, violence or racism

If you would like to perform the national anthem at a City Council meeting, please submit a completed application at least two weeks prior to the requested performance date. The City of Thunder Bay is also seeking those who are available for last minute performances should a performer be booked and be unavailable to attend at the last minute due to emergency or illness.

Please note, no financial compensation or honorarium will be provided. Performances will be included in the official record of the City Council meeting which becomes a permanent archival record of the city of Thunder Bay. All City Council meetings are televised on Rogers TV Channel 10 & 105 on Ignite TV,  Tbaytel TV on Channel 110 and livestreamed on the city’s website.
