The City of Thunder Bay is reminding operators of short-term rental properties (accommodations rented for less than 30 consecutive days at a time), that they are required to register their rental properties with the City under the Municipal Accommodation Tax By-law. The requirement to register includes individuals who occasionally make their personal residences available for rent via online platforms like Airbnb, VRBO etc.

Treasure Exchange Days coming September 20 & 21

The City’s twice-yearly Treasure Exchange Days event will take place on Sept. 20 & 21, in conjunction with the City’s Neighbour Day on Sept. 20.

Residents with used items in good condition that they wish to give away may leave them on the curb any time after 5 pm on Friday, Sept. 19, labelled “free.” Residents can then tour their neighbourhoods over the weekend to find treasures.

Road Closure Court Street South & John Street

Court Street South will be closed to traffic from Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 10 am to Friday, September 12, 2025 at 5 pm for water main inspections between Fort William Road and John Street. Additionally, John Street will be closed between Court Street South and Johnson Ave. 

 Please expect traffic delays and use alternative routes.

The City of Thunder Bay is sharing details of construction projects expected to impact vehicle, cycling, and pedestrian travel in September.
