Section of John Street Road Closed Friday for Storm Sewer Repair

A section of John Street Road will be closed on Friday, May 1 to allow for storm sewer repairs.
Starting at 6am on Friday, John Street Road will be closed between Valley Street and Mercier Street. A detour will be available via Mercier Street and Hutton Park Drive.
Access will be available for local traffic only between Mercier Street and Chercover Drive, and for the Tim Hortons and gas station off of John Street Road.
The roadway is expected to reopen by Friday evening.

April 29, 2026 - The City of Thunder Bay invites residents to provide feedback on the implementation of the current 2024-2029 Multi-Year Accessibility Plan.
Developed by the City’s Accessibility Advisory Committee, the plan identifies potential accessibility barriers and outlines strategies to address and remove them. Local Crossing Guards Highlight Safety Concerns

Crossing guards in Thunder Bay are drawing attention to an alarming number of safety incidents in school crossing zones, during a schoolyear in which two Ontario crossing guards have been fatally struck by vehicles.
The problem was highlighted this month with a police enforcement campaign, as well as incident reporting by crossing guards.
Local guards reported an average of 280 incidents per week across the city. Reported concerns include:
