McKellar Bridge to close overnight for construction work

The City of Thunder Bay is advising residents that the McKellar Bridge will be closed overnight on Thursday, December 19, from 8 pm - 4 am. This closure is necessary in order to move forward with the construction process.
During this time, the bridge will not be accessible to vehicles, pedestrians, or cyclists. Residents are urged to plan ahead to avoid being stuck and not being able to travel to and from the island.

Holiday Waste Collection Date Changes

Due to the statutory holidays on Dec. 25 and 26, 2024 and Jan. 1, 2025, dates for commercial and residential waste collection will change. Effective Dec. 23, 2024 until Jan. 2, 2025, please see changes below:
AREA 1 (Tuesday collection day)
- Tuesday Dec. 24, 2024 is moved to Monday, Dec. 23, 2024
- Tuesday Dec. 31, 2024 is moved to Monday, Dec. 30, 2024

City seeks input on Thunder Bay Fire Rescue assets and services

The City of Thunder Bay is seeking public feedback on Thunder Bay Fire Rescue services through public survey, as part of the process to update the Asset Management Plan.

Temporary road closure on Summit Avenue and John Street

Summit Avenue at John Street will be closed to traffic on Wednesday, Dec. 18, and Thursday, Dec. 19, to complete important sewer lining work.
The north end of Summit Avenue will remain open to local traffic only. Drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes and drive with caution.

HO HO HOLD the Waste - Holiday Waste Reduction Contest

To encourage waste reduction during the festive season, Thunder Bay Solid Waste & Recycling Services is pleased to announce its 2024 “Ho Ho Hold the Waste” Holiday Waste Reduction Contest, which invites local residents to show their creative and sustainable ways of reducing the amount of waste they produce during the holidays.
