Solid Waste & Recycling Facility holiday hours

The operating hours of the City of Thunder Bay Solid Waste & Recycling Facility (the landfill) will change during the holiday season. The holiday hours from Dec. 24, 2025 until Jan. 2, 2026 are: 

Wednesday, Dec. 24 - 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Thursday, Dec. 25 - CLOSED

Friday, Dec. 26 - CLOSED

Saturday, Dec. 27 - 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Sunday, Dec. 28 - CLOSED

Monday, Dec. 29 - 8:00 am - 6:30 pm

Tuesday, Dec. 30 - 8:00 am - 6:30 pm

Wednesday, Dec. 31 - 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Thursday, Jan. 1 - CLOSED

Holiday Waste Collection Date Changes 2025

Due to the statutory holidays on Dec. 25 and 26, 2025 and Jan. 1, 2026,  dates for commercial and residential waste collection will change, with some collections taking place one day early.

Effective Dec. 22 until Jan. 2, please see changes below:

AREA 1 (collection day usually Tuesday)

  1. Tuesday Dec. 23 is moved to Monday, Dec. 22
  2. Tuesday Dec. 30 is moved to Monday, Dec. 29

AREA 2 (collection day usually Wednesday)

  1. Wednesday Dec. 24 is moved to Tuesday, Dec. 23
  2. Wednesday Dec. 31 is moved to Tuesday, Dec. 30

City’s Outdoor Skating Rinks Open to the Public on December 19

December 18, 2025 – Most of the City’s outdoor boarded skating rinks will be open for public use on Friday, December 19, 2025. This includes the eight Parks Supervised locations and the Vickers Park skating loop. Snow will be cleared from all sites in the event of a snowfall before the rinks open.
