Residents are invited to participate in two upcoming Arbor Day events, celebrating the vital role trees play in our community while helping to grow Thunder Bay’s tree canopy.
- Saturday, May 25: The City of Thunder Bay will host an Arbor Day event in Westfort, planting trees along the Woodward Trail. The group will meet at the Westfort Playfield parking lot and proceed along the trail east from Neebing Avenue.

Leaf and Yard Waste Collection coming May 21 - 31

Curbside collection of leaf and yard waste is coming between May 21 and May 31, on residents’ regular recycling day.
Only Kraft (paper bags) will be accepted for leaf and yard waste. Bags are available at most hardware and grocery stores. Each filled bag must weigh less than 18 kg (40 lbs.).
Residents may also leave branches and brush at the curb for collection. Bundles of branches must be less than one metre (39 inches) long and 61 cm (24 inches) in diameter, tied with string or rope.

Beginning Tuesday May 21, travelers will experience some delays and closures as work proceeds at the Memorial Avenue and Harbour Expressway intersection.
Partial lane closures will be in place at the intersection for several weeks. The work is scheduled for completion in late June, dependent on weather and other construction factors.
