Metered parking to include short-term rates

The minimum amounts required for on-street parking at meters and surface parking lots will change in response to concerns from the business community.
City Council decided on Monday night to reduce the minimum amount required to start a parking session at an on-street meter, and in surface lots.

‘Let’s Build Thunder Bay’ banner unveiled at City Hall

Mayor Ken Boshcoff, along with members of the Mayor’s Task Force on Building More Homes, unveiled a banner today at City Hall that will launch the city’s “Let’s Build Thunder Bay’ campaign as part of the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF).
The City of Thunder Bay was approved for up to $20.7 million dollars in federal funding from the HAF in February 2024 to support development of over 600 new housing units over the next three years, to reach a total of 1,691 new permitted homes by February 2027.

Section of Rosslyn Road closed for watermain repairs

Rosslyn Road will be closed at Pomona Drive as of 9:30 a.m. on Monday, June 17 in order to complete watermain repairs.
During the closure, there will be no through traffic on the closed section of Rosslyn Road. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution and expect traffic delays in the area.
The duration of the closure is expected to be approximately 16 hours.

Splash pads set to open for summer season

The City of Thunder Bay will open its splash pads in three phases over the coming days, offering free family fun and relief from summer temperatures in neighbourhoods across the city.
- Splash pads at Northwood Playfield and County Park open June 14
- The waterfront splash pad at Prince Arthur’s Landing opens June 15
- Splash pads at North End Park and Franklin Park open June 21

Centennial Park trails to close at Highway 11/17 underpass

Due to construction on the Current River Bridge, multi-use trails at Centennial Park will be closed to the public in the area of Highway 11/17 beginning on June 17.
Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation will be conducting rehabilitation on the Current River Bridge over the summer. During construction, Highway 11/17 traffic on the eastbound bridge will be reduced to one lane with a maximum speed of 70 km/h.
