City Council Approves 2026 Municipal Operating Budget

February 5, 2026 – Thunder Bay City Council approved the City’s 2026 Municipal Operating Budget on Tuesday, February 3, ratifying the budget as presented following several weeks of review, discussion, and public input.

New Housing Grant Intake Opens to Support Multi-Unit and Core Area Development

The City of Thunder Bay has opened a new intake of housing grants providing additional opportunities for developers to build much-needed housing across the community.
Applications will be accepted during this intake period for:
- The Multi-Unit Residential Grant, which supports projects creating two or more self-contained residential units, and

Traffic Restrictions in Red River Road & Clarkson Street area

Traffic restrictions will be in place at the intersection of Red River Road and Clarkson Street overnight on Thursday, January 29 to allow for repairs to a watermain valve.
The following traffic restrictions are scheduled to begin at 8pm on Thursday, and expected to last into the early morning of Friday, January 30:

City Issues Extreme Cold Weather Alert to Community

Environment Canada has issued a Weather Alert for the Thunder Bay area, with dangerously cold wind chill values expected to reach -40 C to -45 C beginning tonight and continuing into the weekend. This extreme cold is expected to last approximately 48–72 hours.
Extreme cold puts everyone at risk, with increased dangers for infants and young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, outdoor workers, and individuals without proper shelter, clothing, or food.
