City provides update on Indoor Turf Facility project

The City of Thunder Bay is providing an update on the development of its Indoor Turf Facility, a project designed to offer year-round sports and recreational opportunities for the community.

Extra item of garbage allowed after New Year’s Day

With the increase in waste that is generated during the holiday season, the City will allow residents to put out a third item of garbage with no tag on the first collection date after New Year’s Day.

Outdoor skating rinks begin opening today

Many of the City’s boarded outdoor skating rinks, as well as the Vickers Park Skating Trail, will be opening today at 1 pm, for residents to enjoy. The City’s website features an "Outdoor Rink Map" that shows the opening status of each rink. The map will be updated in real time during the holidays as rinks become ready to open. Christmas Tree drop-off sites open on Boxing Day

Each year, the City of Thunder Bay offers a Christmas tree chipping program from Boxing Day to Jan. 12.

Fresh-cut Christmas trees can be dropped off at several locations across the city, where they will be collected, chipped and brought to the compost site at the City's landfill. In the spring, when the compost is mature, the City provides the compost to residents - free - to enrich flower gardens and lawns.

Water bill delivery has resumed

Residents in Section 1, which includes the Red River, Current River, Woodcrest and Grandview areas, as well as remote and country areas such as Rosslyn and Riverdale whose bills were delayed due to the Canada Post strike are expected to receive their bills shortly with the resumption of Canada Post operations.

These bills will display a due date of December 13.  The due date has been extended to January 13, 2025.
