Spring Curbside Leaf & Yard Waste Collection Begins May 5

May 1, 2015 - The City of Thunder Bay's spring curbside collection of organic leaf and yard waste will take place between May 5 and 15, 2015, on your regular recycling day.

Homeowners are encouraged to use Kraft (paper bags) for garden waste because these bags decompose naturally. Paper bags are placed directly into the compost and become compost too. Kraft bags are available at most hardware and grocery stores. Regular bag weight limits of 40 lbs or 18 kg or less apply.

Failure to Install Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarms Earns Tickets

April 29, 2015 – A Prince Arthur Boulevard property owner has been ticketed for failing to have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms as required by the Ontario Fire Code after Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to a structural fire at the residence on Monday, April 27. Each ticket carries a fine of $360.

Flames and heavy smoke were visible when Firefighters arrived. An interior attack by the first arriving unit quickly brought the fire under control. The cause of the fire was unattended cooking...

April 27, 2015 - A special report Clean, Green & Beautiful 10 Years in Review was released at tonight's Committee of the Whole Meeting. Jane's Walk Festival Celebrates Safe, Walkable Neighbourhoods

April 28, 2015 - This weekend, Thunder Bay residents will take to the streets to mark the city's fifth time participating in the annual Jane's Walk Festival. Local volunteers have put together eight free neighbourhood walking tours that will inspire citizens to get to know their city and each other. Walks are held across the world during this weekend in celebration of Jane Jacobs's birthday (May 4).

Animal Services' Chip-a-thon Strives to Keep Pets Safe

April 27, 2015 - The City of Thunder Bay Animal Services Centre in partnership with Friends of the Animals and local veterinarians will be hosting a Chip-a-thon on Saturday, May 9, at the Animal Services Centre, 882 Alloy Place, from 10 am to 3 pm. Appointments must be booked by Monday, May 4.

The Chip-a-thon allows pet owners to have their pets microchipped by local veterinarians for only $35 for the first pet, and $30 for each additional pet.
