April 16, 2015 - The City of Thunder Bay's Anti-Racism Advisory Committee is hosting a community engagement session on April 21, at the Italian Cultural Centre.

Residents are encouraged to attend "˜Shifting the Lens: Understanding Racism', a session aimed at helping participants understand issues surrounding racism and develop recommendations to move the community forward.

Carbon Monoxide Alarms Now Required

April 15, 2015 - As of today it is the law to install carbon monoxide alarms in your home if you have a fuel-burning appliance, a fireplace or an attached garage.  The law will be enforced by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue. Failure to comply with the CO alarm requirements could result in a $360 ticket or a fine of up to $50,000 for individuals or $100,000 for corporations.

Spring Curbside Battery Recycling Program Begins Tuesday

April 10, 2015 - The City's spring curbside battery recycling program returns on April 14, giving residents an opportunity to conveniently and safely recycle spent household batteries.

"This program has proven to be a very popular and successful one," said Jason Sherband, Coordinator - Solid Waste Diversion & Recycling. "Last spring, City workers collected 2.8 tonnes of batteries, which were shipped off and safely recycled. Last fall, a further 3.6 tonnes were collected."

April 1, 2015 - The City of Thunder Bay today officially declared April as Dig Safe Month, reminding residents and contractors to call to obtain locates before undertaking any project that requires digging.

"Enhancing worker safety and protecting underground infrastructure is crucial," said Mayor Keith Hobbs. "Any of the contractors here today can tell you the importance of obtaining locates prior to breaking ground on any project."
