April Proclaimed Dig Safe Month in Thunder Bay

April 1, 2015 - The City of Thunder Bay today officially declared April as Dig Safe Month, reminding residents and contractors to call to obtain locates before undertaking any project that requires digging.
"Enhancing worker safety and protecting underground infrastructure is crucial," said Mayor Keith Hobbs. "Any of the contractors here today can tell you the importance of obtaining locates prior to breaking ground on any project."

March 31, 2005 - The Superior North Emergency Medical Service (SNEMS), the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC), and the Thunder Bay Central Ambulance Communications Centre (TBCACC) last week completed a "cold" call for a patient suspected of having the Ebola Virus Diseases.

Federal Government Will Not Fund Event Centre Under One Roof

March 30, 2015 - The City of Thunder Bay today received a registered letter from the Federal Government of Canada indicating that the proposed Thunder Bay Event & Convention Centre is ineligible for Federal Gas Tax funding based on the facility design proposal as submitted and the intent for an AHL team to be the lead tenant. The letter indicated the facility would be eligible if the Convention Centre was built as a separate stand-alone building.

City Resident Suffers Serious Burns, Be Oxygen Aware

March 26, 2015 - On March 17, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to a Leslie Avenue home for a possible structural fire. Responding units found an extinguished fire inside a bedroom of the home and a female occupant suffering from serious burns. The fire is still under investigation with the Ontario Fire Marshall's office, but it is known that the occupant was utilizing home medical oxygen while smoking.

Waste Collection Changes for Easter Week

March 26, 2015 - The upcoming Easter Long Weekend will result in changes to waste collection city-wide.
Garbage and recycling collection moves ahead one day during the week of March 30 for all residents. There is no collection on Good Friday or Easter Monday.
Residents are asked to check their waste collection schedule card, or visit www.thunderbay.ca/recycling for more information.
