Spring Curbside Battery Recycling Program Begins Tuesday

April 10, 2015 - The City's spring curbside battery recycling program returns on April 14, giving residents an opportunity to conveniently and safely recycle spent household batteries.
"This program has proven to be a very popular and successful one," said Jason Sherband, Coordinator - Solid Waste Diversion & Recycling. "Last spring, City workers collected 2.8 tonnes of batteries, which were shipped off and safely recycled. Last fall, a further 3.6 tonnes were collected."

April 2, 2015 - In response to Minister Greg Rickford's comments that the City should have known its request for Federal funding would be denied, following is a statement from Mayor Keith Hobbs:

April 1, 2015 - The City of Thunder Bay today officially declared April as Dig Safe Month, reminding residents and contractors to call to obtain locates before undertaking any project that requires digging.
"Enhancing worker safety and protecting underground infrastructure is crucial," said Mayor Keith Hobbs. "Any of the contractors here today can tell you the importance of obtaining locates prior to breaking ground on any project."

Federal Government Will Not Fund Event Centre Under One Roof

March 30, 2015 - The City of Thunder Bay today received a registered letter from the Federal Government of Canada indicating that the proposed Thunder Bay Event & Convention Centre is ineligible for Federal Gas Tax funding based on the facility design proposal as submitted and the intent for an AHL team to be the lead tenant. The letter indicated the facility would be eligible if the Convention Centre was built as a separate stand-alone building.
