Reduced load restrictions take effect 2023

Starting today, reduced heavy load restrictions will apply to all streets within the City of Thunder Bay limits with some exempted streets. This process is part of the City’s efforts to maintain roadways during the period of spring thaw, when road damage is most likely to occur.

Riverdale Road closed to complete Water Work

Riverdale Road will be closed today to allow the completion of Water work in the Mount Forest area. The work is being completed on the water main feeding the areas north of Highway 61, west of Mount Forest Boulevard, as well as west of and including Mountain Rd. While the work is underway, residents in the area may notice low water pressure.
The work is anticipated to be completed and the road reopened by the end of the day.

Dawson Street Closed Between High Street and Algoma Street

To allow necessary sewer repair in the area, a section of Dawson Street between High and Algoma Streets has been closed.
The work is expected to be completed and the road reopened on January 19.
Drivers can detour around the area using Van Norman Street.
Motorists are asked to obey the construction signs, drive with caution in the area and to contact City Dispatch at 625-2195 if they experience any issues.

Southbound James Street Reduced to One Lane

Southbound traffic on James Street between Arthur and Isabella Streets is currently reduced to one lane to facilitate repairs to a sewer connection in the area.
The work is anticipated to be completed by the end of the day on Thursday, Dec. 15.
Motorists are asked to drive with caution in the area.

City Urges Motorists to Drive with Caution

The City of Thunder Bay is advising residents to drive with caution as road conditions throughout the city are icy and slippery.
City roads crews are currently sanding and salting streets, and will continue these operations until conditions improve.
During all poor weather events, for safety reasons, residents are asked to limit any unnecessary trips, drive slowly, and maintain a safe distance between vehicles.
